About Me

Hi, I am Fiona Westcott and am a Independant Stampin’ Up! demonstrator and live in a small fishing town called Brixham, Devon, in the, UK with my dog Herbie.  My dream is to build a safe space for an inclusive community of people of all abilities to come and have fun, making friends whilst chilling out making cards both in person and online

How I came up with the name Dorrie's Designs

I was born with a disability called Apert Syndrome, which basically means various parts of my body are deformed so I only have three fingers on each hand (four less for getting in the way I say), I am deaf but amazing at lip reading and where you have a ball and socket joint I have like a square and triangle so I have limited movement in my arms and legs.  I am stubborn and if anyone tells me I can’t do something I will do it just to prove nothing is impossible.  My motto is if you believe you can do it with a little imagination anything is possible.

Dorrie was a little girl in a story book when we were little who was stubborn just like me and always getting into mischief. Designs came from when my nephews were small we used to always be creating things with them.  One day  they came up with “Auntie you should be called Dorries Designs as you are always designing things”. Tada Dorrie’s Designs was born.

Herbie

Herbie is a Cavapoo and is 5 years old.  He is my soul mate and where ever I am he is sure to be as long as it doesn’t involve water as he hates getting wet.

I call him the Office Manager and he will often be on my craft table or in his den underneath whilst I am crafting.  He loves to be involved and frequently manages to pop his head onto Zoom and given the opportunity he loves to come to meet everyone at my in person classes.

When we are not crafting Herbie loves the beach and in particular going on an adventure that involves having a sausage or two.

He has many talents one of which is he can hear all the electric cars so if he’s heard one and Mummy tries to cross the road he will lie down and refuse to budge until it has gone by.

Why I chose to become a Stampin' Up! demonstrator

My introduction to Stampin’ Up! was as a Girl Guide Leader I had run an evening making Mother’s Day cards with Guides squabbling because the pink card I had bought was different shades.  It was all in the same pack but there was definate differences between each sheet so I made a promise the next time we did anything crafty I would source the card so it all matched.  After doing an SOS on various Facebook craft sites for someone to help me with my mission, a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator offered to send me some yellow card for Easter.   The card came long with a co-ordinating ribbon and an Easter stamp set and a yellow ink pad the Guides loved it and so did I.

Thats was it I was in love with Stampin’ Up! crafting supplies.  I started buying Stampin’ Up products in 2014 and became a demonstrator in 2015 to get discounts on my craft stash. I went on to hold a Christmas card making evening with some friends to share Stampin’ Up!  They loved it and asked for another that was the start of my journey as a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, since then have been holding regular classes and sharing my love of papercrafting.

In January 2024 my day job went part-time, giving me much more time and opportunities to share my love for papercraft whilst following my dream of bringing people together to have fun crafting together.

We look forward to crafting with you soon
