Welcome to this months Tech4Stampers Academy Blog Hop.

This months theme is: Make a card for a child.

Hello Everyone,

I am taking part in this months Tech4stampers Academy blog hop. The theme this month is to make a card for a child. I knew as soon as I saw the theme I wanted to use the stamp set and dies from Stampin’ Up! called Beach Day. I love the beach. Herbie and I are so fortunate to live right by the sea, we can walk from our home and be at a pebble beach in 10 minutes.

My inspiration for today’s card for a child

My inspiration for todays card for a child came from walking with Herbie on our favourite sandy beach which is about a 15 minute car ride away from our home. We were walking along the shoreline and watching the waves as they come pounding in against the sand, there was a group of people having fun with their paddleboards and surfboards. Further along the beach there is a shack where they sell the best local ice-cream made with Devonshire clotted cream or in Herbie’s case the best sausages. It’s by the beach shack where you can hire the surf boards and paddle boards. The palm tree is a Torbay Palm. We live in a small fishing town called Brixham, which along with Paignton and Torquay make up the area known as Torbay or The English Riviera, Torbay Palms are found all around the bay. On a hot sunny day, I think it really does look like we live somewhere exotic like Hawaii or Barbados with golden sands, palm trees and gorgeous blue sea.

Beach Days stamp set and dies

This is the Beach Days stamp set and dies. Currently it’s my favourite bundle from Stampin’ Up!. I can see so many reasons to create a card using it for all sorts of occasions.

How I created my card for a child using the Beach Days bundle from Stampin’ Up!

I started by making my card base. As I am in the UK I used a piece of Shaded Spruce A4 card which I scored at 10.50 cms and cut at 14.85 cms. I like to score first as by scoring first you can make two card bases out of one sheet of A4 card at the same time, saving time when you are making a batch of cards. I then cut my contrasting layer of Basic Black 10.00 cms x 14.40 cms. Then I cut my final mat layer out of Balmy Blue this was 9.50 cms x 13.90 cms.

I stamped the beach hut on Basic White card and coloured it in Crumb Cake using my alcohol markers which Stampin’ Up! call Blends. I love colouring with my Blends as unlike felt tips they don’t leave lines where you have coloured, so you get a smooth finish. They come in a pack of two consisting of a light and dark of the same colour, so you can by using both on your project, add some shading to your design. Next I stamped and coloured the surf boards, again using my Blends in Real Red, Daffodil Delight and Balmy Blue. Now I used my Cut and Emboss machine and die cut the beach hut and surf boards out. I also cut some sand out of Crumb Cake which I randomly stamped images of shells and sand in Crumb Cake. I cut waves out of Basic White and the palm tree out of Crumb Cake and Shade Spruce. Now the fun came of building my picture. I cut a piece of Basic White 10.00 cms x 14.40 cms and stuck this on the inside so I could write my message inside.

I loved how my card turned out, I have put it safe in my box of cards for when I need a card for a child.

I hope I inspired you to sit and create a card for a child using the Beach Days bundle from Stampin’ Up!. I would love to see what you create so please do share.

Well that’s it from me today, Herbie has been waiting patiently for his walk, it’s a glorious sunny day here so we are off to Goodrington Sands, the beach that inspired me to create my card today.

Until next time stay safe and happy crafting
